No, this isn't my summer reading project. Humanities 4 -- for the insane -- which was start to final a total of 6 weeks. A little about the books:
Simulacra and Simulation -- The book in which The Matrix was based off of. Fantastic and highly recommend.
The Myth of Sisyphus -- Book based on the fact that life does not have meaning in the current forward mode of living, but a reflection of life redux.
Basic Writings of Martin Heidegger -- Different; for only those that are true scholars of philosophy.
Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion -- A big confusing play about.... well, god in general. Appears as though the author is shying away from his true beliefs.
Basic Writings of Kant -- Another book for those who love philosophy. This is actually much more interesting than any of the philosophy books I read -- maybe even Nietzsche.
The Unbearable Lightness of Being -- A great story and easy to understand thanks to several interruptions by the narrator to which some may dislike. However, the concepts of the novel are then easier to understand.
The Communist Manifesto -- The usual, standard reading in high school, but this should be read alongside Simulacra and Simulation.
The Gay Science -- Nietzsche's aphorismic writing style is fun, easy to handle and revolutionary. I always love reading Nietzsche.
The Social Contract -- This book was read in the earlier part of the semester; I didn't enjoy it all. Read this if you are into political science and/or political discourse. I would have to say that either due to the aged language or the translation (or both), Rousseau's ideas are not concise.
On Photography -- An interesting perspective and interpretation of photography. Many of the outright statements she makes regarding photos can be wholeheartedly agreed with -- without even the slightest substantiation.
Walden -- It's Thoreau and his per usual personal writing style. Enjoyed it on a personal level, but not much to say on that account as the book waried from subject-to-subject.
Candide -- Not the best work of Voltaire, but a great satire. Objects of criticism range from the Church to the state.
Mrs. Dalloway -- Read this if you're into post-modernism. You may have to read it more than 5 times before you even remotely understand the flow of this book. Quite honestly, this is the book that almost gave me an aneurysm as I read it through twice and was still lost.
Okay, now read those all in 6 weeks, kthxbai <3

| So I'm a big fan of Sam Harris and have been following the development of his foundation "The Reason Project." If you're someone who values reason and logical thinking -- which is to say, you're not an idiot -- then I suggest that you visit the site and notice that this is where all the sane people are.
"The Reason Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation devoted to spreading scientific knowledge and secular values in society. The foundation draws on the talents of prominent and creative thinkers in a wide range of disciplines to encourage critical thinking and erode the influence of dogmatism, superstition, and bigotry in our world."

| | Score! I landed the job at the investment consulting firm and I start on Monday. On another note, my computer should be done by Wednesday-ish! | comments: Leave a comment |
| I highly recommend this movie. I'm glad that someone, SOMEONE, finally exploits the trends of deities that Jesus Christ follows -- virgin birth, born on December 25th, rising from the dead, etc.
On another note, my computer is being delayed a bit by "the rate of change of the area of a 2-dimensional circle as it passes laterally through the x, y, z equation of a conic." My brain is becoming increasingly bigger than my head -- headaches ensue.
Some time ago, I applied at an investment consultanting Firm and didn't hear from them for almost a month. Last Friday I had an interview and by the 20th I should start after I pass the subsequent background check. I hope they don't frown on my driving record lawl. I'm super excited and can't wait to start.
Thanks be to the good times! | comments: Leave a comment |
| I spent every day since Thursday studying Calc and Econ, only to be shortchanged. Today, I killed the fucking Calc test, and the Econ test isn't until Thursday, apparently. On top of that, I attempted to turn in my Econ assignment when that's supposedly due on Thursday as well.
At least I got to see the USC game -- and them lose to Oregon State. I was able to catch Real Time with Bill Maher and Chris Rock's comedy special; not to mention the presidential debate as well.
As far as the debate is concerned, there was one thing that irked me out of all of it -- Henry Kissinger.
He explicitly said "I do not believe that we can make conditions for the opening of negotiations [with Iran]." What's funny about this is that Kissinger supports McCain. He is a McCain advisor. What's more? During the debate, Obama cited Kissinger with respect to his national foreign policy in contrast to -- guess who -- John McCain.
McCain wants to put conditions on the table up-front for Iran. This pretty much balks at Iran and makes the U.S. sentiment about Iran seem to echo the effect: "Our way or the highway." This really should be translated to cowboy politics to the fault that Iran will want to attain nuclear weapons. Simply writing them off and bombing them (hypothetically) isn't exactly a policy.
Obama, on the other hand, has been more than forward about at least TALKING to Iran to begin with, without pre-condition. This sentiment was shared by Henry Kissinger as aforementioned. McCain argued during the debate that Kissinger never said those words. Indeed, the day after, Kissinger denounced Obama's claim that Kissinger himself said those words. You be the judge @ :20:
Fucking douche bag said it, and revoked it knowing that it was detrimental to McCain's campaign. Just shows how much people can be cognitively dissonant when blinded by their own bias. Score 1 for Obama.
I despise television and am usually studying anyhow. If I'm not studying then I'm reading a book or watching the stock market. Yhey for integrated stock analysis! | comments: Leave a comment |
| So, I was going through my mini-library and thought that I should mention some books for recommendation:
The End of Faith -- Sam Harris Letter to a Christian Nation -- Sam Harris The God Delusion -- Richard Dawkins The Capital Vol. 1-3 -- Karl Marx The Communist Manifesto -- Karl Marx Emerging Viruses: AIDS And Ebola : Nature, Accident or Intentional? -- Leonard G. Horowitz Dante's Inferno (some archaic-looking cover) -- Dante Alighieri Paradise Lost -- John Milton
The top two books I HIGHLY advise for anyone to read. When it comes to logical rationality, Sam Harris is the man. After reading both of those books, I'm almost sure that someone will look at life in a completely different attitude -- atheist, secularist or religious zealot alike.
Back to orthogonal trajectories -___-;!
EDIT: I love a good Sam Harris article. A little political explanation on the cause and effects of voting for someone lesser than ourselves for president: http://www.samharris.org/site/full_text/palin-average-isnt-good-enough/ | comments: Leave a comment |

| HI AND HELLO AGAIN. Sorry for the caps, but I think it's a little needed since I haven't posted or been on the computer much. You see, time is of the essence or some shit. Anyways, hi to those that care. I've been crazy-fucking-super busy since the beginning of last semester. Plus, I've moved again. This time, to another part of Mission Viejo. Anyways, drop a line or something. Late~
